I named my horse in Zelda “Urboner” so that people would say funny things. It makes me laugh and I think it’s funny. At this point the girl says:“Simon! How could you! You were pushing Urboner too hard again! I bet you hurt her”Admittedly I cropped a bit off, but I’m pretty sure it’s really funny.I sincerely hope there will be more cracking Urboner jokes to come. From the bottom of my heart,Yours always,Simonxxx

making time

andreaallen:

Whenever I do something creative or funny, someone always seems to voice a concern that I have too much time on my hands. This has never made sense to me.

OH ANDREA, this is a phrase that really gets my goat. You know that screamin’ beans flash thing I made a while ago? It got put on digg and stumble upon and went around the houses. Many people commented on it, good and bad. I don’t mind negative comments, like “this is retarded” etc. - I quite enjoy them in fact. If someone thinks something I’ve done is stupid, who cares? I like it, so “pfffff”.

But the one comment that annoyed me was “this guy has way too much time on his hands.”

WHAT THE SHUCKS ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? You’re taking time out of your day to make a not-even-negative comment about something that everyone else seems to enjoy, and I’m the one who has too much time on my hands? I had fun making it, I made something that makes me and other people laugh, and that’s a waste of time compared to sitting on the internet making worthless comments? NO SIR.

Also it was a university project! And I got a good mark for it!

Did you get a good mark for thinking that putting effort into creating something new that you and other people will enjoy is a waste of time? I wonder who enjoyed your comment. Probably not even you. Nil pwah! (‘Pwah’ is French for points)

Anyway, I spose I don’t really mind. I just find it sad that some people have been instilled with this idea that unless you’re toiling over something boring what you’re doing is unimportant. Maybe jealousy has something to do with it. But if you can spend at least some of your time doing something you enjoy, and create something new as a result, do you have too much time? I reckon you probably don’t have enough.

People should make more stuff. It’s fun and fun is fun. It makes you happy and fun. Things don’t always have to have a point to be worthwhile. I like kites because they’re completely pointless - made to be flown in the air for a period of time, then brought back in, having achieved no real goals other than “be in the air”. But people love them because they are fun, and having fun makes you happy. Just take a look at all this fun…

THAT LOOKS LIKE FUN:

Somebody Hand Brian Brown A Job

ithinkiblog:

My great friend Brian Brown is on the prowl for work and he will not let you down. Genius artist.

BRIAN BROWNIES DOT COM

 YEAAAAH BRIAN BROWN

p.s. Only just now have I stopped misreading the title as “Somebody Give Brian Brown a Hand Job”

Oh yeeeah, behbeh! Tha'swhaddamtalkinbout!

Just ordered a Canon HV20! My camcorder’s been buggered for a while, and I think I’m finally ready to make some new videos. Watch out! Of course, this could be all talk, but NO WAY HOMIE. WATCH OUT!

HOLY HATS! WATCH OUT BECAUSE I’VE ORDERED A NEW CAMCORDER AND I MIGHT MAKE SOME NEW VIDEOS AND PUT THEM ONTO THE INTERNET!

Also I got a job in an independent cinema which is pretty sweet, apparently we get 25 free tickets a week! Can’t be right, I’m sure. But still, I’ma watch an arseload of films. Even the bad ones.

I’ve only worked one shift so far, but I learned about this old man called Lionel. The story is that a while ago Lionel used to come in pretty much every day to watch a film. He went so much that he just kept blowing his pension on film tickets. I suppose if you find something you really enjoy doing at that age you just don’t care. However, his family wanted him to eat food and such, so unfortunately they had to put a stop to it.

The heartwarming bit is that, as Lionel had become such a familiar and well loved figure in the cinema, the people that run it decided to let him come and see films whenever he wants - free of charge!

I saw him on Friday, dressed in a suit. Apparently he always comes to the cinema properly dressed. He’s from Argentina originally and was a fighter pilot in the war. There’s still the pilot spirit in him, so he always tries to charm the girls that work in the cinema, speaking Spanish to them in the hope that they’ll speak it back.

I’m looking forward to talking to him, although apparently he’s not that with it any more. He doesn’t really remember which films he’s seen, unless he didn’t like it.

Anyway, I’m really glad to be working in a place that not only cares about independent cinema, but also about wonderful people like Lionel.

Whooyah for the Picture House!

WHOOYAH.

Earwigging

[This happened nearly a year ago, but I forgot about it. I recently found what I’d written and it makes me chuckle so up it goes!]

I was sitting on the train on the way to visit my sister when some teenage girls got on. I was listening to my portable CD player (I am so freakin’ phat and oldskool), and I turned the volume right down so I could listen to their conversation. It was more interesting than the music I was listening to, but also completely unnoteworthy.

Except for this: at the end one of the girls was getting off the train and she said something about me (I had tuned out by this point so I didn’t catch what). Then she said “Ooh, I hope you can’t hear me! Actually, I know your game - you’ve got that CD player on pause, haven’t you?”

WA A AOW BUSTED!

She was only joking, but my eyes totally panicked and went all wide and darty. Though I did my best to hold it together she kind of went “oh! …oh.” and got off the train, leaving two of her friends opposite me. I wish I could have been cool about it and said “yeah, you’re right. Sorry. I’ve been on a train for ages, and your conversation was more entertaining than listening to more music.”

Instead, in an effort to try and recover the situation and restore my character, I spent the next ten minutes or so bobbing my head to imaginary music, and intermittently opening my eyes really wide like it was just something I did when I listened to music. I have since reenacted this in the mirror, and I’m surprised they didn’t call for their Dads to pick them up.
